Holiday Tree Trail set in Witherle Woods
The Castine Arts Association, in cooperation with Maine Coast Heritage Trust, is once again sponsoring a tree decorating project that invites individuals and families to choose a tree along a designated trail in Witherle Woods and adorn it with nature-friendly decorations. According to CCA, there’s no better way to enjoy the beauty of the woods, while also sharing in the creation of the holiday tree trail that is becoming a new tradition.
Decorators are invited to begin this project the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26. Decorating may take place any time during the holiday season. Decorators are asked to remove decorations by January 6.
What exactly are nature-friendly decorations? The organizers describe them as anything that causes no damage to wildlife and the environment. For instance, tinsel, breakable glass objects or small plastic objects will not be allowed. Similarly, decorators should not use decorations that might risk combustion in these woods.
For more guidelines about selecting appropriate decorations, as well as a map of the designated trial, visit castinearts.org. Access to the preserve is from the parking area off Battle Avenue, next to the town reservoirs. Signs will be posted at each end of the trail to guide decorators.
The Castine Arts Association said, “Let’s get outdoors, continue a new tradition and share with one another a new way of celebrating during these holidays!”
