Mural artist Ryan Jaenke
Mural artist Ryan Jaenke of Cleveland, Ohio and his wife, visual and ceramic artist Lauren Herzak-Bauman, have both been artists-in-residence during July as part of the Annex Arts Residency Program in Castine. During this time, Jaenke has devoted himself to developing a mural that is specific to this region as well as attractive and coherent to the building on which it will be painted. This week that mural, which covers the lower half of the Annex Arts Studio building façade at 8 Water Street, is coming to life. According to Goody-B Wiseman, who also owns Gallery B on Main Street, “We sited the mural on the front of Annex Arts’ West Water Street Studios, a spot where we could offer public art on a building where we engage the public in art.” The public is invited to watch the mural take shape throughout the week and to attend the closing reception on Friday, July 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., when Jaenke and Herzak-Bauman, as well as the incoming artists-in-residence for August, will be available for conversation and discussion.
