Search begins for new Castine town manager
Town meeting date set

The search for a new town manager is officially on, current town manager Jimmy Goodson reported during a meeting of the Castine Board of Selectmen on January 22.

Goodson said he spent the first week after making his plans for retirement public researching firms to help with the search process. The company the town used when Goodson was hired was Eaton Peabody, but because of the company’s current work load, they are not the best option this time around, Goodson said.

Maine Municipal Association is “pleased to help,” according to Goodson, who asked the selectmen to approve using the organization for the process moving forward.

The quote from Maine Municipal Association was $5,500 plus incidental expenses including advertising and background checks.

The selectmen gave the approval to pay those funds, to take them from the legal account. Should that account not have enough money at the end of the fiscal year, the remaining needed funds would be taken from the contingency fund.

The selectmen also approved the time and date for town meeting, which has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 11, upstairs at Emerson Hall.
