The 2019 Maine Maritime Academy Chili Cook Off champion has been crowned.

The Campus Safety entry, named Beano 911, was named the 2019 Chili Champ at the ninth annual chili cook off competition, hosted by the academy’s Student Government Association, on February 15.

Judges sampled chili from 13 different participants, some current students, some alumni, and other various organizations around town.

Six additional prizes were handed out after all the chili had been sampled as well. Beano 911 won two additional titles, taking first place in the Pint-Sized Chili and Grass Grazer Chili categories.

Chili Chic, made up of students Kyla Desmarais and Julia Gagne, was awarded the prize for the Just Go With It and Big Beast Chili categories, and The MMA Curling Club won for best Dorm Doctored Chili. The Castine Fire Department won for most festive booth.

In total, the 13 teams created 33 different flavors of chili.
