Public hearing set to discuss timber harvesting
by Monique Labbe
Members of the Penobscot Planning Board have scheduled a public hearing during the regular monthly meeting of the board at 7 p.m. on December 4 at the Penobscot Town Office. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss turning over timber harvesting enforcement to the Maine State Bureau of Forestry.
According to a note in the section of the town’s Shoreland Zoning Ordinance regarding timber harvesting, that entire section of the ordinance will be repealed when the statewide timber harvesting standards take effect, as established by Maine statutes.
The planning board recommends that the town allow the Maine State Bureau of Forestry to administer timber harvesting rules.
