Castine Road neighbors address speeding problems

Neighbors who live on the Castine Road in Orland and Penobscot have joined forces in an attempt to slow down drivers on their road, according to a news release. They met earlier this month to consider options.

The public is invited to attend a meeting to discuss the problem with a deputy from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at the Orland Community Center.

Castine Road residents report that since recent widening of the road, traffic is even faster than when they last complained to the state and to law enforcers.

They also discussed their contention that much of the traffic is related to Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, including staff, faculty, students and contractors working on or delivering to the campus.
