Under fair weather and with sunny smiles, 12 graduates from Castine and Penobscot attended commencement ceremonies last weekend. Ten students from George Stevens Academy received diplomas on Sunday, June 8, while two Blue Hill Harbor School students graduated on Saturday, June 7.
Kyle Arbuckle, Devon Goodman Oppedisano, Chelsey Anne Staples, Nicholas Andrew Steenberg, Phoebe Wentworth and Justin Willis of Penobscot graduated from George Stevens Academy, as did Emilio Codega, Gordon Lameyer, Edward Lameyer and Jennifer McKenney of Castine.
Jaqueline Caswell of Castine received her diploma from the Blue Hill Harbor School, as did Nicholas Ira Wood of Castine and Penobscot.
In his speech as a GSA second honor essayist, Willis shared a lesson that could serve the graduates well as they begin the next phase of their lives: “You have to be ready to roll your sleeves up, grit your teeth a little bit and learn.”
