Meeting to update Castine’s wind turbine project
All members of the community are welcome to attend a meeting updating the VolturnUS 1:8 offshore wind turbine moored off Dyce Head, according to a news release from Maine Maritime Academy. The meeting will be held Tuesday, July 2, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the MMA Student Center, 1954 Lecture Hall.
Members of UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center research and development team and members of the research and deployment team at Maine Maritime Academy will provide the update.
The first offshore wind turbine in the Americas, VolturnUS 1:8, was towed by Maine Maritime Academy vessels and deployed off Dyce Head in early June. The turbine is connected to the U.S. grid and is generating electricity. UMaine, Maine Maritime Academy, and others will provide updates to the community throughout the summer; this is the first public meeting for this purpose. If you cannot attend this meeting but would like to learn more about the VolturnUS 1:8 and plans for the future, register for the DeepCwind Consortium newsletter at DeepCwind.org.
