Castine CED announces raffle winners

Winners of the Keys to Castine raffle, sponsored by Castine Community and Economic Development, were announced at the last Waterfront Wednesday concert of the season on August 29. Three prize packages of 10 to 12 items each were awarded, according to a news release.

Castine summer resident, Mary Hall, won package #1 which included a hand-hooked rug based on a Josh Adam painting, 10 pounds of lobster donated by Eaton’s Boatyard, a kayak trip with Castine Kayak Adventures and a piece of custom jewelry by Vicki Lee.

Package #2 included an Eileen Fisher outfit from SaraSara’s, dinner for two at Stella’s, a one-night stay at the Manor and breakfast for four at the Castine Inn. This package was won by frequent visitors Nancy and Gene Silva of Houston, Texas. Gene is a 1964 graduate of MMA, and they are looking forward to being in Castine again next summer to enjoy their winnings.

Judy Fitzsimmons, another part-time Castine resident, was the recipient of package #3, which included a custom portrait by Susan Adam, a pottery pitcher from Leila Day Antiques and a silver elm leaf brooch crafted by Lyn Mayewski.

The Keys to Castine raffle raised over $1,200 to be used for community and economic development activities.

The final Waterfront Wednesday was capped off by a boat parade in the harbor. Lead by a USCG buoy tender out of Southwest Harbor captained by Chief Tim Chase, a small but spirited group of boaters cruised along the waterfront. Winning the prize for best-dressed vessel was Kismet captained by Bill Light.

In other news, Castine CED announces the kickoff of Watering Hole Wednesdays. An effort to keep the summer energy going into fall, this event is a travelling business-after-hours/happy hour. On the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 5 to 6:30p.m., the committee members will gather at a pub or restaurant for networking and socializing. All are invited to attend and bring their comments, suggestions or ideas, or just stop in for a chat with other residents and merchants. This will begin at the Pentagöet on September 5 and move to the Castine Inn on September 19. Additional locations for October and November will be announced at a later date.
