Last week, Castine selectmen heard from Doug Koos, owner of a mobile home park on Shore Road, who has repeatedly asked selectmen to convene a work session on affordable housing. The selectmen disbanded the Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee’s affordable housing subcommittee late in 2012. One of Koos’ goals is to convert a portion of his mobile homes into modular housing units on full foundations—he seeks town support before securing financial help for the project. The expanded function of the park would require “a whole new zone under the zoning ordinance,” noted Town Manager Dale Abernethy. Above, one portion of the mobile home park.
