Food for elms

Elm tree supporters gathered at the Pentagöet Inn on June 26 for a cocktail party fundraiser to support the much-loved trees of Castine. “We kept lots of plates of food coming from the kitchen,” said Julie Van der Graaf, owner of the Pentagöet and chairman of the Elm Tree Committee. “The atmosphere was convivial and festive.” While the exact amount raised has not been tallied yet, Van der Graaf said the event was “close to capacity.”
