Castine celebrates Independence Day

Hundreds of children and their families walked in the annual dress up parade to celebrate Independence Day on July 4. Dressed in everything from comic book characters to everything red, white and blue, parade participants walked down and around Court Street and the Castine Town Common. The common also played host to a hot dog picnic, potato sack races and a pie eating contest. Festive music, including “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” played throughout the late morning and into the afternoon. The festivities closed with a performance by the Castine Town Band later in the afternoon, followed by fireworks at the town dock at dusk.
