At home, in the sea

The ocean is home to wildlife and, increasingly, other objects. The VolturnUS, a 1:8 scale wind turbine shares Castine Harbor space with three cormorants. Coastal birds that go ashore to nest in islets, trees and cliffs, cormorants feed on small fish and eels, diving from the surface to snatch their prey with long bills. The VolturnUS feeds on wind and electricity run through underground cables from the shore.
